We will meet at the indicated time in the Patio de los Naranjos, in the heart of the old town of Malaga next to the cathedral, and from there we will go to the Interpretation Center of the Roman Theater of Malaga, located in the Alcazabilla street.
The city of Malaca, as this is how the city was known in the Roman Hispania, it housed large public buildings intended for the leisure of the population. During the tour of the interpretation center we will learn about the history of these great infrastructures, among which the Roman Theater of Malaga.
Next to the small interpretive center that will serve as an introduction to the life and customs of ancient Malacca, we will find the ruins of the theater. While we visit its stands and the different parts that are still preserved, we will learn what the stands were like Roman stage performances. By the way, do you know what differences they presented with respect to the functions of Classical Greece?
At the back of the theater is the Malaga citadel, where we will continue our tour. This fortress of Andalusian origin is considered a “small Alhambra in Granada”. The Malaga fortress, also used as a palatial residence, still maintains a strong essence of the Nasrid kingdom. An example of this is its famous patios and gardens, where we will appreciate the charm of the typical architecture of Al-Andalus.
We will also access the battlements located in the walls of the citadel of Malaga. From this place we will enjoy excellent panoramic views of the city, and especially the nearby Gibralfaro castle: another of the vestiges of the Muslim period.
We will conclude this activity, lasting an hour and a half in total, returning to the center of Malaga.
The Alcazaba is one of the most emblematic buildings, and a must-see for visitors to Malaga. Discover this palace with an unconquerable fortress, beautiful gardens, intriguing history and legends, and astonishing views.
